Help Identifying Payer

I have recently taken over as PoA Attorney for Property and Financial affairs for my step father who has alzheimer's.  Looking at his recent bank statements he is receiving the same amount on a monthly basis with a reference AGnnnnyyyyyyyy where nnnn is a different 4 digit number every month and yyyyyyyy is the same every month and, I assume, is either a policy number or customer number. Again I assume that the payment is related to a small private pension but my step father has no idea what this is nor can I find any paperwork. I have been in touch with his bank and all they can tell me is that payment is coming from Lloyds bank, not the name of the company making the payments.  Can anyone tell me the name of the company that could be making the payments ?
Thanks

Does the nnnn bit seem to relate to the actual date that month?  Has the amount changed at any point in the past (maybe annually)?

If you can get the bank account that is generating the payment and google that you may find the company paying as this would presumably public information.

You might try contacting the Pensions Regulator.

Is his employment history known?  Subject access request to HMRC perhaps?

Unfortunately that link takes you to a page with the unhelpful observation 'We cannot help with queries about an individual's pension benefits'.

Yes but they might recognise the reference or be able to put the OP on to someone who knows more.

In one way the matter is not urgent in so far as it appears that the payment is properly due to your stepfather and you will deal with it as you would any other income credited to his account.

However, in the event of his death, his executor would want to identify all sources of income - in particular, he would wish to advise any pension administrator of the death.

It would therefore be helpful if you can obtain the information.

Would your stepfather's bank be willing to contact Lloyds, explain the circumstances and ask Lloyds to contact their customer (presumably a corporate customer) on your behalf?

A regulator won't have that level of detail, given their function is to regulate, but https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/pensions-and-retirement might well be able to make some suggestions about how they might find out more info.

If it is a pension it will have been allocated a tax code. Your stepfather should have been informed about this at least every year and it should also be documented in his HMRC tax account.
