I went to "Compare the Market.com" & the first quote that came up was from One Call. It was about £70 less than the next quote, so I followed the link and read their details.
The next thing I knew was that it told me the policy number of the new Insurance policy. I hadn't paid anything and hadn't requested a policy.
They don't have a phone number, nor an email contact nor a Live Chat. I even went to their Facebook page & left a message, but I haven't heard from them. I can't contact them and don't know if I have a policy or not, but now I see why they are so cheap[---there is no way of contacting them.

Was it a policy number, or the saved quote number? Probably the latter from what you have described.0

Well if they haven't charged you, I highly doubt they are insuring you.canalhopper said:I went to "Compare the Market.com" & the first quote that came up was from One Call. It was about £70 less than the next quote, so I followed the link and read their details.

It doesn't jump from a comparison site to being in force "before you know it".

If you haven't paid and haven't received an email with documents you haven't purchased a policy.0

It does sound like you didn't complete it, so you will not be insured. Going cheap is not always the best way to get insured.
Many alternatives, like an older driver or a low mileage driver, can get you better discounts.
By Miles is suitable for those that cycle and drive, as you pay an upfront cost of £120 and then around 3p per mile.0 -
I agree with those who have said it is probably a quote reference number. I've had car insurance with One Call a couple of times in the past and they don't just suddenly issue a policy using details from a quotation on a comparison site.
The information on Compare the Market before you are given your list of quotes says "don’t forget you can tailor your quotes once your prices are displayed". They won't issue any policy before you advise them of your specific requirements or, more importantly for them, your bank details.
