DPD have had my parcel for 10 days

I have been waiting for a parcel that DPD have had at their depot for 10 days. After several days of trying to get in touch their chat feature and call centre I wrote a Trustpilot review and finally got a response saying they will look into it. I then finally spoke to a manager on the phone and they promised the parcel would be with my on the following Monday at the latest. It didn't arrive. Each time I phoned they wait time was approximately 30min, but I phoned again and they eventually agreed to get the depot to phone me. They did phone me but the line didn't work and they couldn't hear me (I presume they were being honest about this and not just avoiding speaking to customers). So I phoned the number back, but it put me back in the queue for 30 min, but when I got through it was too late in the day for them to do a call back from the depot and all the managers had gone home for the evening (they must be too important to stay past 5pm). I was promised a call back from the manager and the depot, first thing this morning. It didn't happen, so I called back (on hold again) to be told that now it was unlikely they would clear the back log at the depot before the 24th Dec. They have basically taken on extra work from royal mail and neglected their own customers, however they surely will have been paid to take on this work.
I have now contacted the company who sent me the order (who have also been chasing up DPD), they are doing all they can to get a replacement order to me using DHL, but it may not be with me until after Christmas. If DPD had just been honest with me at any point in the last 10 days that they wouldn't be able to get the order to me I could have sorted this out before Christmas.
Not Happy.

Sadly a friend who runs a pet business & uses DPD for deliveries, as most of the packages are of raw dog food. They get long lists that seem to update as the days goes on for post codes that they are unable to deliver to, due to the amount of packages they have to deliver.
I guess one option would be to go to depot & pick up item.Life in the slow lane0 -

This looks more like a vent as there is no question and the post isn't aimed at the correct company ie the company you purchased from and who used Dpd.
You should have contacted the Company you purchased from first and continued the communications with them to sort it out. That's assuming you didn't arrange the delivery yourself.
By diverting off communicating dpd you might have delayed things.

16 days to get mine, despite the fact they delivered parcels sent after they arrived in the depot and were at my neighbours property daily.
Every day the tracking was out for delivery, changing at 5pm to delayed. My retailer, Ring, was worse than useless and refused to chase DPD telling me to do it, despite my contract being with them not DPD and I was about ready to file a chargeback on my card when it eventually appeared. At one stage Ring told me 'it will appear when it appears'. Helpful with £250 worth of electrical goods somewhere in the abyss.
Our local depot would also not allow collections.

Exactly the loop I was stuck in.

I finally got the final box of my 3-box 'next busness day' delivery last Tuesday (13th) a week after the original delivery date, as they had not put it onto the van with the other two (which did indeed arrive as promised). As with others, I was messaged every day to say that it would be delivered the next day, only to be followed the next evening with an apology for the further delay. It was a good job it came when it did, because the weather took a considerable turn for the worse the day after and I probably would still be waiting for it now...I think the combination of Royal Mail strikes, the usual increased Black Friday / Xmas demand and the bad weather has sent all carriers into a bit of a meltdown....1
