Moss on shed roof

The roof of my shed is fairly covered in moss and I'm thinking I need to get it off there....worried it will damage the felt and lead to water ingress (it's more a workshop than shed), so my questions are:

1.  Do I need to?
2. And if so, how is best?

Thanks

Is the felt in good condition, and is it thick stuff, or cheapo 'shed felt'?

Does the roof have a decent pitch on it?

If you have some old copper water pipe (unpainted) then one technique is to lay a piece of that on the roof near the top of the pitch.  There may be enough copper leaching from the pipe to kill the moss and keep it away, without having to do anything 'mechanical' that might damage the felt.  Reports of success with that technique are variable though.

In general I find that doing physical preventative maintentance work on a felt roof is more likely to do damage than just leaving it alone... unless there is a significant problem already. A difficult call to make.

The felt is good quality, and there appears little "damage" and the roof has a decent pitch.

Is there a chemical treatment perhaps?

  •  We have a constant moss problem on our flat roof and shed/workshop. We use dilute bleach to kill our moss.Dilute 30% with water and put it in a weed killer sprayer then liberally wet the moss. It dies after a few days.
