Hello, advice welcome thank you. I paid on credit card in June for a family member following receipt of  a bill/threat of bailiffs from Marston Group Ltd
I have proof of the payment in transactions and thought no more about it. Now the group - Marston- are claiming they have no record of it. Ive spent a few hours so far today trying to talk to someone there to no avail. I can call back the money Im told by the credit card company, but I do need to know where and to what account/bill the payment went to before doing this, as the family member has received a demand from Overdales Solicitor  very similar in amount and Im concerned that the money that went to Marstons was not then sent on to the original creditors I am sorely tempted to call back the money  Im concerned that if the money is taken back there will be further bailiff letters etc, which has had a very damaging effect on the family members mental health hence me stepping in to pay the original claim. Unfortunately the family member never kept  the original  letter (mh again). Can anyone advise what to do next, or  any ramifications if  I call back the funds - Thank you for any help

I had a debt with Marston a while ago (over 10 years ago). They called in person, I paid on card, job done.

Then, like you, a few years later I was approached by them for payment. I mentioned that I had already paid the debt - and gave them the approximate date (I believe I had changed bank so didn't even have the proof you do). They responded a couple of times, and I maintained that it had been paid, and the disappeared.

    Haven't heard from them since.

First thing I think would do is confirm that Overdale are indeed collecting on the same debt.

If you do reclaim the money from Marston, I'd put to them in writing that that is what you plan to do (as they claim to have no record of the funds).

Get the card statement showing the the payment and reference numbers on it.

Then tell whoever is currently chasing that it's been paid and the date.
