I am buying a property on an open plan estate, the property is about 40 years old.
I would like to put a fence or wall across the front, what or who is stopping me? I know you can have natural growth, ie an hedge as high as you wish.

On most open plan developments there is a clause or covenant that prohibits the use of fences or walls to define the front gardens. Your solicitor will inform you of any such covenant attached to the property.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
