Hey,

I have been bidding on council website for 2 years now and came 1st place in final bid last week. We are down as needing 4 bedrooms and currently in 2.

My husband has an extensive MH background and takes a lot of meds, is on ESA and pip enhanced. The council have accepted he needs his own room due to this/effects on him but now I’m terrified what checks the HA will do or if they will say we can’t actually have 4 bedrooms.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I suffer anxiety and don’t want to get excited. The housing team from the council have said as we have finished 1st the HA will be in contact with us directly as soon as we can. They didn’t contact Thursday or Friday though.

I am just so scared it’s too good to be true, my husband will be able to sleep in a bed for the first time in 14 months and my youngest can have a wardrobe. This would literally be the best thing ever for us and I’m so worried they going to change their minds.

  • As they have said the HA will contact you, where I am there is usually a telephone meeting first where they will ask you all those sorts of questions to check your eligibility. They will have read your homechoice details so will have a rough idea anyway.

There is a second in person meeting to confirm paperwork like ID and finances, show you the property etc.

I remember your previous threads, I'm so pleased sticking it out with the bidding has worked for you.

One thing that impressed me after I applied myself was the focus that mental health has within the system.

When I bid for my flat, I finished at number 4 as that is where the system put me, but the bidding team moved me up to number 2, then I became number 1 when the person ahead of me found somewhere else and dropped out.

Whereas my Mum was 1 the whole time bidding was open, finished up at 1 and was offered the property.

So the shortlist can be moved around, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that this doesn't happen in your case.
Even if you end up not being offered this property, your bidding position suggests you are in a very strong position for future bids, so all isn't lost if it doesn't happen this time.
  • Hi OP

I've worked for one but not in housing but dealt with everything.
The two previous posts have covered everything and  I was aware of.

I just want to wish you good luck and add (I'm sure you thought about ti but no harm in me saying this
just in case you have not with everything on your plate) have you thought about the heating bills, council tax being higher and costs to furnish being more?

I hope the move addresses most of your concerns and sets you on a better path to helath and happiness

I wish you lots of luck & please do share the news with us when you get it.

    Good luck :)
  • Thank you all for replying to me.

KxMx thank you  we came 4th and 5th the week before so I really didn’t expect 1st when the bids closed last week!. My bids go on weird it says I’m position like 9-20 (was position 9 on the one I moved 1st to lol) then drops right down when listing closes.
There’s another listing for 2 4beds on this week that finish wed night and I’m position 10 so might even be lower when they close. I bid on every single house. I don’t care re location we need space over anything. I think the only reason I could be getting one soon is because there’s been about 10 houses advertised in 2 months before that we went months with nothing on there.

Ok so they will go back over eligibility, I feel so sick with nerves!

I will definitely let you know how it goes.
    Thank you 🙏

So I’ve still not heard from them! But I have contacted them myself and someone will be calling tomorrow I’ve been told.

also when I log into home choice now it says ‘under consideration for offer’ on that house, I’ve never have that before so hoping it means I am being offered it. Too excited now.
