Is it possible to do this?

I recently had my smart meters changed over (very long story) and BG finally got them to work. The installer left me the newer model of IHD (black bezel) but after he left I wondered if the older one (white bezel) would still work. It said "Lost network" so I tried a reset but it comes back up with the same error.

How are the IHDs paired with smart meters? The only advice I found online is to contact your supplier but I haven't really got a few hours to spare right now ...

IHDs connect to a secure Home Area Network (Zigbee Wifi) which is established by the communications hub. Only a supplier or other Registered DCC user can pair an IHD or CAD device to a communications hub. That said, it may not be possible to pair a device from a pre SMETS2 meter installation to a SMETS2 communications hub.

Tx for the info. The white bezel IHD was paired to my prev SMETS2 meters that were installed in March and that went faulty after two weeks.

(The BG eng replaced all the kit rather than just the supposedly faulty comms hub (error N95) as he said that that had the best chance of success. Even then the gas meter wouldn't work. It has taken them 9 months to fix it).

I've managed to link an energy usage app to the meters with just the MPAN but it doesn't give live energy monitoring. It'd have been handy for an app to connect to the IHD via wifi and extend its reach.
