VAT on imported used toys

I collect old toy cars. I recently bought some, mostly dating from the 1960s, none of them new, from an auction site in Sweden. Shippers FedEx have added VAT to the invoice. Is this correct?

HMRC add the tax not FedEx, it will depend what commodity code the sender has used for the item and what the total cost of the package was inc P&P and insurance
If the total cost was over £135 then in most cases VAT should be added1 -
Diecast cars are subject to VAT but not duty (assuming manufactured in Sweden) as per https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9503008500jprehc said:I collect old toy cars. If the total package was over £135 then its you that pays it, if its under that then in theory the sender should have paid it (or the market place if bought from eBay etc) but operationally its unclear what checks/balances there are to ensure they have etc.1 -
It was over £135, so that box is ticked. They were made in a number of different countries, including the UK. Thanks for the info!0
