To give a better idea of what it looks like.... These are pictures of before we moved in so it's changed a bit but do you think having doors will make the room look too small? We have a corner sofa where the window is and a fireplace on the wall where the mirror is. My husband wants to define the lounge and diner space with furniture.1

Our lounge is 3.5x 5.5 so rectangular, but it doesn't make it feel small. We normally just have the doors open.0 -

Personally, for the look of the room I think the rug is too small and the TV too big. I'd have the TV flat on the wall opposite the sofa.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The "rug" s a yoga mat (as I was just doing yoga) and the TV is on the wall there because we have a fire on that wall and also a chair on the small wall, so the TV wouldn't be visible from the other sofa on that wall. It's also higher than normal because I have a small child with ASD and I prefer it not to be smashed to pieces.
We have just moved in and that's the TV we had, don't need to go and spend money on a new one when that's perfectly adequate.

I need some advice please on the best use of our downstairs space.I think the main issue is that you can move the walls around, and spend a lot of money doing that, but it won't gain you additional space.Investment in remodelling the floor space needs to be done carefully so the end result is worth at least as much as what has been spent.Meanwhile, as far as I can see, nobody has commented on the garage which appears to take up more than a third of the total ground floor space. If you don't need a garage, and the loss wouldn't affect the value of the property, and there is no 'legal' restriction on converting the garage, then in terms of value for money, doing something with the garage is likely to be a much better prospect than shifting a wall or two.Alternatively, perhaps replacing the conservatory with a proper rear extension.5 -
Thank you that's very helpful. The garage is a very good idea I think I'll look into that I think.0

If I converted the whole garage into say two bedrooms would it be safe having a boiler in a bedroom cupboard?0

How many of you live in the house and how often do you have guests? My immediate thought is to put effort into choosing a table and chairs you are happier looking at, rather than a wall. At the moment you get light from both sides, which if something I appreciate.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
