Why can't I get credit?

I've posted my problems with Cahoot and First Direct already, both these banks rejected me for a current account, First Direct even told me it was nothing to do with my Experian file, but their internal scoring that I had failed to score highly enough on.

I currently have an Egg card which I am stoozing, but is coming up to the end of its useful life. I decided to apply to Virgin as the next best card on the list. Today I got a rejection letter. They use Experian to run the credit check against.

I can see no reason whatsoever to be having these problems getting credit, I have a copy of my credit report from when Cahoot rejected me and there is very little on it, regular mortgage payments, Bank accounts, Egg card etc, but nothing else. I am totaly at a loss and the banks won't reveal how or why they failed me (Virgin don't even put a tel number on their rejection letter). I have never defaulted on a payment, I have a 25K flexible mortgage which allows up to 40K extra to be drawn on it, I have a 4K limit on the Egg card and no other credit/loans outstanding. I have three bank accounts and thats about it and earn aprox 20K per year.

In the last six months I have started Bookie/Casino/CC bagging, but don't see how this would affect anything. Anyone got any ideas at all I would be grateful as I am starting to feel like I've been credit black listed!

Hi alecpr, it might be worth your while to check your credit report with the other two credit agencies (Equifax and Callcredit) as there might be something on a credit report with one agency that might not be reflected on another.

Credit scoring by providers vary so we won't really know what madness goes into their methods. Have you tried applying for a credit card from your local bank account providers? It's usually the safest best of clinching a credit card through them. But before you make any more applications you should really check your other two credit files. Cheers and all the best!

If you have not already done so then read up on articles on Credit Scoring such as this one to see what else may count against you.

For example if you are not on the Electoral Role that will count heavily against you.

Cahoot are cherry pickers, not sure about First Direct though.

Try a more mainstream bank, they might accept you.
