Low energy use electric heater
Hi I am looking for a small size electric heater which can sit on the floor. It is to heat a shop of about 21 sqaure metres, halogen heaters aren't strong enough, and the space is limited (I have about about 30cm x 30cm max). At the moment I am using a small fan heater, which only heats about 2 feet in front of it. Can anyone recommend something please? Even my customers complain about the cold. Thanks, Cathy

Any electric heater produces the same amount of heat for the energy it consumes. 1 kWh in = 1kWh out. Some different types of heater produce different "feels" of warmth - but ultimately, you have a reasonable sized space to warm, and it's not going to be cheap I'm afraid. Personally I find anything that physically blows air leads to a very rapid feeling of temperature drop when it is turned off.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Your best bet is what I term a heat pump air conditioning unit as they also produce heat and can run as efficiently as 1kwh in and 3kwh out.
However you will need the space and permission to install and maybe even planning depending on your local council.
And it's not cheap.
Otherwise it maybe you need two fan heaters1 -
I was just going to write the exact same thing, this is the cheapest form of electrical heating, but it comes at a cost. It also has the benefits that it'll please your customers in the summer, too.Mstty said:Your best bet is what I term a heat pump air conditioning unit as they also produce heat and can run as efficiently as 1kwh in and 3kwh out.

Thanks everyone. I do actually have an air con unit but the heating bit cuts out quickly as it is close to lights on the ceiling. The heat from the the lights makes the unit think it is hot when it isn't. I ahve just about a heater called an Erbauer, is this any good?

Thats an easy fix set to max and adjust down to find the real temp and/or replace the bulbs with leds, That should have been done already, They run far cooler.Cathygh said:Thanks everyone. Is the heater a modern reverse heatpump and not just an electric element in the blower? check the model number or manual.0 -
All electric heaters are essentially the same. It doesn't matter what brand they are.Cathygh said:Thanks everyone. Replace bulbs with LEDs and solve 2 problems at the same time.1

Is there a gas supply into the shop? if so, that would be vastly cheaper to run with a suitable gas appliance (obviously not to sit on the floor though). No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes, isn't it truly magical how anything which is either "Green" or peddled / backed by the Government always comes at a cost, and that cost is always significantly higher than whatever its rolled out to replace.Astria said:

Otherwise it maybe you need two fan heaters"Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
