Microsoft Taken £450 & won't return it

    There is no unauthorised chargeback... Many people get confused on this.
    There re a couple that sort of fit, that would cover one is Fraud, which would be rejected on the basis that Op details are on the purchase. 
    Other is recurring transaction after it has been cancelled. Neither fit in this case. 👍

    Why can you not return it? That is your easiest route to getting back to where you were. You either want the money back, or you don't. 

    Also, on their website, it states that you can redeem a 1000 USD worth of points "per day", but doesn't say whether there's a limit per transaction. I can't seem to find any information about that.

    Why can you not return it? That is your easiest route to getting back to where you were. You either want the money back, or you don't.

    Are you sure that's correct?  Looking at the relevant parts of your original post:

    We found a deal on Black Friday where CDKeys were selling Microsoft Store vouchers for slightly under the retail value.  We also converted Microsoft Reward points.  Combining the 2, we had exactly £450 in my Microsoft Account.  

    I noticed that the payment appeared to have come from my bank and not from my MS account. 

    We checked with our bank who confirmed that £499.98 (they took 1p from my MS balance....) had been taken from our bank

    My current situation is that I now have £499.98 sitting in an MS account, that is non transferable, not withdrawable and am £450 down (we've actually had to borrow from my own parents to cover some bills) due to a Microsoft error.

    So how, if you return it and get £499.98 (not £450) plus the £0.01 returned to your MS account) returned to your bank account, are you "£450 down"?  You'll have your cash back, and you'll still have the £450 in your Microsoft Account with which you can buy the replacement.

    I assume the OP means that they are then left with £450 in unusable Microsoft points, which they consider to be £450 down in cash terms.

    That's what I thought, but they won't be unusable if they can get the "one device per household" restriction removed or find a workaround for it.  If getting the cash back is the priority (which is what I inferred from their post, particularly since they've borrowed money to cover it) then that's a task for another day and the first thing is to return the console and get the refund.
  • Did your bank not check with you that you wanted this money taken for this item. My bank always asks me, and gives me a code number to put in the box. How did they get all your bank details????? I am just wondering if the bank was at fault, is it a credit card, or a debit card

    I suspect the bank details were required to validate the transaction, putting the amount "on hold" before what was then supposed to be order fulfilment using the MS points.  I doubt anything suspicious has happened here, it just appears to be a procedural error.

    Given the OP has a Microsoft account & the card is linked  to it. The transaction will have been processed as a recurring payment. As such does not require 2FA

    But returning it means they can cancel the transaction, so you will then have NO X-box, and can then re-order it. They were able to clear it last time, so should be able to this time. 
    They've told us that if we return it they can't guarantee that we will be able to re-order it.  I do think it's about our only option though.  MS have been horrendous through all this, just an outright refusal to listen.
