Samsung smart TV - no subtitles on iPlayer...

Hi all.  We've recently switched from a digibox to a smart TV and subtitles generally work fine apart from when we're watching something on catchup on iPlayer. We've gone into the menu and put subtitles on but it doesn't work.  Has anyone come across this problem before?  Thanks for reading.

    Are you certain that the subtitles exist?

    In my experience not all programmes on Catch Up or iPlayer have subtitles even when the original broadcast did have them.

    A man walked into a car showroom.
    He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
    The man replied, “You have now mate".

    You need to set them in the actual iPlayer app, not on the TV
    I can't remember exactly where but ....

    Subtitles in the TV settings will probably be for Freeview.  Not all programmes then will have subtitles (the only guaranteed 100% will be all bar one of the BBC channels):

    As above, they are in the iplayer app.

    When the programme is playing, press the down arrow/ring and the video pauses
    Quickly (very quickly!!) press up arrow/ring and the highlight moves to the strange symbols at the top.

    {I just tried it and you can simply press the up arrow twice, but the video doesn't pause}

    Quickly press right arrow/ring to move to the square speech bubble then press ok (or whatever it is in the centre of the ring, mine has worn off)
    The highlight is now on "subtitles" if there isn't a tick, press ok, and play resumes with subtitles on. You can turn them off the same way, or bring the menu back up and mess with the font, or select

    I have to admit that I wouldn't buy another Samsung though, the old one would play anything, and this one (with Tizen) won't. It also throws a wobbly every now and again and has to be unplugged - I fitted a torpedo switch in the cable at the top so I can just reach behind the set and cut the mains.
    I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    (except air quality and Medical Science ;))
