Hi all
We have just moved into a 1978 house which would have originally had a gas fire, this has been removed and the hole breeze blocked up and a vent fitted.

We want the physical hole to be opened up and plastered so we can stand an electric log burner style heater in and have an oak mantlepiece fitted. I’ve attached a pic of what it currently looks like along with the style we are aiming to go.
We’ve had two quotes and it just seems really expensive for what we are asking for, I wondered if anyone could perhaps advise whether im asking for the moon on a stick or if these quotes are OTT?
Purely to knock the fireplace out and plaster it and fit a wooden mantlepiece (not fit any kind of fire) We’ve had one at £1690 and one at £1900.
Thanks

Does it include the hearth?0

Around £1,500, would probably be a standard price. All you can really do is get more estimates.
The other alternative is to DIY. Some DIYers find it's not as hard as they thought, with help.on a forum.
How much were you hoping to spend?1 -
Thanks!
Honestly I’m not sure, I don’t know why but I thought perhaps including an actual log burner and reinstating the functioning chimney might be around the 2k mark but I guess it was just wishful thinking that in essence removing the breeze blocks someone had bricked it up with and re plastering it may have been less than £1690 (I appreciate the materials for the mantle and hearth come a chunk of the cost too)
Ill get another couple of quotes to be sure but appreciate the reply!0
