Just popping by as I have just read your diary and wanted to say your doing absolutely amazing with your debts and they are coming down really quickly so you should be really proud of how well you have done so far, I’ll follow your diary, shame about the banister but I’m sure now it’s done it looks lovely, happy birthday for Sunday 🥳
    Thank you for popping it.

It does look lovely and I do understand that it cost more than they were expecting, I was just annoyed as it always feels like its 2 steps forward and 10 steps back. Now I've found the money it doesn't feel as bad.

  • Turns out I haven't found it, I thought I seemed to have a never ending supply of money to assign in YNAB. It turned out where I had been transferring money to my savings account it was over inflating my bank balance!! If Only!!!! So now I have £165 to find to pay the FIL back and £306 to cover my bills in May the come out before payday on the 4th. Looks like heavy have to wait until May as obviously the bills come first.

Another day spent in the garden, it coming a long nicely. Now it's time to sit down with a glass of wine and a Chinese. All budgeted for of course!!

oh no! At least you know where it was going a bit wrong I’ve never tried YNAB but I stick to a very strict budget which has taken a very long time to perfect I literally have every penny accounted for it’s a bit sad to be honest but such is life, go enjoy your wine and Chinese,  we had lasagne and now also having a wine (been in the house since last June, not big drinkers haha) and watching a cheesy film xx

Exactly what I was thinking. At least I know before I spent it. DH loves a lasagne, I end up making him couple on a Sunday before I go away to work for the week, just to make sure he's eating properly. Otherwise he lives on frozen junk food!!

Yes my husband would do the same either that or takeaways! He isn’t the most organised when it comes to food, we have a menu so I could tell you what we are having 3 weeks on Tuesday 😂

Sorry about having to pay the £500 extra. That’s annoying.

I could never get on with YNAB so just allocate money at the beginning of the month and track expenditure using my Starling app. You are doing well in spite of setbacks.

  • Thank you @enthusiasticsaver. I didn't get on with just allocating money, didn't keep a spending diary and I'm finding seeing where all my money is being spent a real eye opener. Its certainly making me more accountable at the moment.
The £500 was really annoying and thinking what it could have gone to instead is what's getting to me the most.

  • Today has been a relaxed day before heading away for work again tomorrow. I've had a few surveys come through on Prolific which was surprising for a bank holiday and I now have £8.45 to cash out.

We booked the National Express to Heathrow for our trip to the South of France in July. We were going to go up the day before and take the car but we used Clubcard vouchers and paid £10 towards the cost and are going on the day we travel. Thats easily saved us £300 with parking, hotel and food and drinks the night before. I never thought I'd persuade DH but he was on board straight away.

I'm going to make some debt payments tomorrow. I will finally be able to say I'm in the 50,000 bracket!!
