This summer I had a lot of work done to the CH system and replaced all the radiators and trvs so I could zone effectively. Ironically, I am using much less gas but paying so very much more. (Used 72 cubic meters of gas less this November compared with last November).0 -
What you're describing sounds more like a business than the large detached house we're comparing the consumption to.Not a business. Just a typical rural property. Nearly every house in our parish is similar in size and acreage. The problem when people say 4 bedroom houses is that could mean anything in terms of size or use. Hence the need for context and knowing what your individual use is and not to be tied to mean or median.

As regards the gas, the first thing to review is the insulation. Loft insulated to the right depth, double glazing, cavity wall insulation? 32,684kWh of gas is massive, so I'm thinking maybe this is a listed property without double glazing or cavity walls? Really need more info from the OP.
Or could this be our old friend the imperial to metric meter change not accounted for?
OP, has the gas meter been changed during your ownership?
A random 4 bed 1950's house 148sqm with cavity walls filled, DG, TRV's, Pitched, 100 mm loft insulation, Is a EPC D68 Dated 2013 and 14% led bulbs.
Type of heating Estimated energy used Space heating 17856 kWh per year Water heating 2322 kWh per year
The primary energy use for this property per year is 178 kilowatt hours per square metre (kWh/m2)
What are the EPC's of your houses like?

1930's should be 50mm cavity i believe. It wasn't said its a solid wall house.0
