21° overnight ?   That’s ridiculous and unhealthy,  even newborns don’t need it that warm!

I’m averaging 45kwh of gas per day at the moment,  heating is set to 15° overnight but only kicks in once or twice between 10pm and 6am,  then 18.5° during the day unless we are out, when I use the app to knock it down to 16°.
If you say the heating is ‘on’ 8 hours a day,  it’s roughly 63p an hour as an average.

Well you told us it would run 20 hours a day, from 3am to 11pm. So running all but 4 hours during the night (11pm to 3am). So let's say 'most of the night.' If you dropped that to switch on at 7am, you'd reduce the running hours to 16 hours a day. That's an immediate 20% off your gas bill (in fact more, because the most expensive hours to run it are the coldest hours of the night, when the heat loss is at it's highest, and boiler output at it's greatest to keep the temp up). Could be a 30% saving.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • For me I would say on average if it takes 2 hrs to get to thermostat temperature it would cost up to £2.50, then every hour after that will be in the 30-50p range to maintain temperature

I'd love to think what an MSE Energy Forum would have looked like in 1970.

Let's allow @cmbrookes to use their money as they like, especially as they're not complaining that their bills are excessive.
I think they soon will be if they run the CH all winter from 3am at 21/22C...
Al we do here is give advice and opinion, it's up to the OP whether to act on it or not.
I’ve taken your advice on board and set my timer from 0600 to 0900 and 1800 to 2200 with temperate at 21C. See how I get on with that then lower it?
So if I go with the above times and settings at 21C would this increase my electricity usage as I’ve noticed that the gas usage isn’t bad at all really but my electricity usage seems to be on the increase.

Unless you're using supplementary electric heating, there should be no great difference in your electricity consumption. If anything, with shorter running hours the electricity usage will drop as the central heating pump may not be running for as long. However, most heating pumps don't use a lot of power - typically less than 100W.

Has the been an immersion heater left on heating a water tank, That then uses more power if the heatings not constantly on?
