Thermal blinds or DIY option?

I have thick blackout curtains, but I’m considering adding blinds as extra way to keep heat in at night. I have plenty of room to mount these behind the curtain rail.
Should I buy special thermal blinds? If so which brand?
Or, I actually have some IKEA blackout blinds I never put up, I could add those foil emergency blankets to the back to boost insulation?
Something else?
Thanks

With a roller blind, ideally you'd need the top of the blind in a casette and side channels to stop heat escaping around the edges. Bloc blinds are good but I wouldn't spend that much money just for their thermal performance as I doubt you'd ever recoup the cost. We have them in a couple of our bedrooms purely for their performance as blackout blinds - any thermal advantage we get from them is just a bonus.1

We looked at the cassette units which gave me an alternative idea, obviously my 16mm x 16mm mini trunking as guides is not as light or draught proof as the pro jobbies but more than good enough for us. Problem is they looked a little too good & Mrs E had me do way more windows than initially intended, good job the 1500mm textured blackout blinds were on clearance pricing, ps found the toolstation mini trunking works well.rob7475 said:With a roller blind, ideally you'd need the top of the blind in a casette and side channels to stop heat escaping around the edges
