My elderly Aunt's IHDU doesn't seem to be able to connect with the gas meter - it did, but now it doesn't.
It's a small 1-bed bungalow with WiFi so I'd be surprised if it was a WiFi range issue.
Is there an easy reset or something we can do?

It doesn't use your home WiFi to connect between the IHD and the meter so that isn't a factor.First thing I'd check is the gas meter itself, does it still display the current meter reading if you wake it up by pressing one of the buttons?1

I'm with Octopus and my gas readings haven't been showing up on the website. So I queried this when I sent them a manual reading recently. I've not checked my IHD, not sure where it is to be honest.
Anyway, it might be that your aunt's in the same boat. Here is their reply:
I can see that you have what we refer to as Secure Smets 1 smart meters. Your missing gas meter data is due to the beginning of the migration process of your meters over to the DCC (data communication company = database for smart meters).
As part of the SMETS1 Enrolment and Adoption to move SMETS1 meters to a nation-wide secure smart meter network, giving old meters the same benefits as new SMETS2 meters, the Data Communications company is currently enrolling all SMETS1 meters, before December 2022.
Please see the link below for more information: https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/our-smart-network/current-programmes/smets1-enrolment-and-adoption/ and https://www.smartdcc.co.uk/customer-engagement/smets1-consultation-various-1/
Octopus Energy has no control or visibility, as to when the DCC will be enrolling and adopting Smets 1 meters.
Octopus Energy are not exchanging SMETS1 meters in the meantime, unless they are faulty. As the DCC are actively migrating the SMETS1 meters to be a on a nation-wide secure smart meter network, which will enable us to communicate with them.
The Government decided that all older smart meters should be migrated to this singular network rather than remaining on various unconnected networks. This will allow seamless energy supplier switching and smart operation no matter what smart meter generation you have or who originally installed it.
The DCC was given the role by the Government of coordinating the 'migration' of these meters onto the nationwide network. This has required working across the energy industry to make sure suppliers can bring their customers onto a unified network in a secure and seamless manner.
Once this migration process has been completed, your gas half hourly data should be visible once again.
I hope that the above explains the process.

Try moving it closer to the meter for a day or so.No free lunch, and no free laptop1

Ok Thanks all - so how would she know if it was a SMETS1 or not? It was only installed about 18 mths ago. Her supplier is BG.0

I have smets 2 meters, which are "talking" to Octopus and the Bright App, but I don't get any gas data on my IHD. I do get the electric data.I was with British Gas, and still got the electric data, even when the meters weren't "talking" to BG or Bright.IHD is one EDF supplied about 6 years ago.I think I've had gas data briefly after switching the IHD off and on again, but it soon loses the connection / info.0

Bad news all round from me, I'm afraid. My IHD (supplied by EDF, with the SMETS2 meters) stopped showing my gas supply several months ago. I have literally spent hours on the phone and nobody can do anything. EDF won't even send an engineer out, as they are fined for sending engineers out to non-smart meter faults - apparently my IHD not connecting to my gas meter isn't regarded a smart meter fault, as EDF are still able to see receive my gas and electric meter reading every day.I've opened complaints with EDF, receiving "compensation" as a result. They even had the gall to tell me that the energy ombudsman won't be able to do a thing.Sorry, but the chances are your Mum is stuck with viewing electricity only on her IHD. If you do find something out that I haven't, please let me know.0

The IHD is a freebie gimmick: there is no requirement for the supplier to supply one, repair it or replace it.
As you say, it's not a smart meter fault, the smart meter works as intended.
The Bright app is an excellent alternative. No free lunch, and no free laptop1 -

No, but it does give you usage by half hour/hour/day/week/month.
Meter readings serve only one purpose: to calculate kWh usage or £ cost, which Bright does very well.No free lunch, and no free laptop1
