  4. Supply and fit new Ideal Instinct 2, 30kw combination boiler with standard horizontal flue in lounge cupboard. Boiler comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.
  5. Supply and fit 9 new stove enamelled radiators (complete with top grill and side panels). Radiators to be fitted with new Danfoss TRV’s and lockshield valves.
    1. 2 * Lounge
    2. Kitchen / Dining room (vertical next to patio doors)

I'd be asking for boilers with a 10y warranty. There are a few on the market (Intergas being one). I'd also question the need for a 30KW boiler with just 9 radiators - Have been getting quotes for a new boiler here (admittedly just 8 rads), and 25KW boilers are being recommended to me.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • Thank you freebear. I will definitely ask those questions. My dad (mums husband) recently passed away and he used to handle anything like this so very new to us. No idea what cost should be.
  • Hi OP

No offence, but I was staggered to see a boiler so cheap, hence the good price.

Price can depend on how much the rads and boiler is going to cost. We have rads that cost 8/900 each and one cost 1200
and the boiler was about 2400 several years back a valiant - I'm not bragging, etc just saying that materials can make a vast difference and where you live re labour etc

IMO, the boiler, you can get up to 12 yrs I've looked it up

I am aware with the valiant boilers me, my kids and our rentals have, offers re warranty/guarantees can vary month to months
However, not every installer is qualified to install a Valiant boiler that allows them to give the max guarantee so ask re your mum's new boiler. Often it means fitting one or two extra gadgets and Valiant insist on a magnet-type thing

NB: thigs may have changed re gurantees for boilers but one of our kids had one installed last year/Valiant and i think got 10 yrs guarantee - as you know it has to be serviced to retain the guarantee.

All in all the price to me seems like a very good deal if they are good people.

ps - i gave you the example of what we had and as you may know you can pay a lot more per rad and this is from the likes of screwfix, The designers we have are not that cost-effective but foten the ordianry ones are

I hope the works got to plan and your mum has a warmer and safer home

    Good luck

Combi boilers are sized on cold water flow rates to ensure a good supply of hot water, not just the number of radiators.  You don't need much output for the heating circuit, even 25 is excessive for 9 radiators.

The flow rate should be checked and an appropriate sized boiler specfifed.
  • Thank you everyone for your advice and taking the time to respond. It is greatly appreciated.
