British Gas making it difficult to accessing Smart meter data from online portal.
Hi,
British Gas changed their website and their mobile app recently which made it impossible to access smart meter data.
Therefore I've been looking into way to access the data. I have managed to get Loop app on my phone setup. However they don't provide an option to download the data.
There is a site called n3rgy and they have a customer portal https://data.n3rgy.com/consumer/home
They need the MPxN number and MAC address of the IHD (in-homedisplay). I have the MPxN number however the British Gas Smart Meter doesn't have a Mac address. Both the Gas and Electric ones do have addresses but these don't work. It seems British Gas have gone out of their way to make it difficult to download your Smart Meter data. I believe technically the data belongs to me. At least I can now use the Loop app to get some of it but sadly I wanted to download the data as I'm looking at getting solar panels and need as much data as I can get to find out if solar is worth doing.
I've been through all the menu options on the IHD and there is nothing about MAC address. I've been in contact with BG and they can't help me. The person I chatted to was very nice but just couldn't help. I can read some data from the IHD but its lacking any historical detail.
So I'm wondering what to do next. Should I make a formal complaint to BG for making it difficult to get hold of Smart meter data? Should I raise this Ofgem? What's the best next step to take as in this time of high costs the energy companies really should be making access to smart data very easy. I'll assume this isn't British Gas being deliberately difficult but its not great timing to deny access to usage info. I think other energy suppliers like Octopus provide access to the data and may even allow it to be downloaded.
Anyone else experienced this or have an idea on the next steps to take.

Did you have any success with this? I am also on British Gas and trying to access smart meter data via n3rgy.
I have the crummy little Trio 2 IHD - it's like a kid's toy from the 1990s. It doesn't even have Wifi - maybe that's the problem?
There is an EUI number in the menus, which is supposedly the same as a MAC address, but it won't get me into n3rgy.0
