Help working out £ usage of gas
Sadly I don't have a smart meter but would like to know my usage cost for yesterday. I work from home so had my heating on from 7am to 20:30 although once it was warm enough I turned the flow rate down to 55c. I would have thought that yesterday will be a max usage day for me so It would be good to know the cost.
My Gas meter read on Sunday eve after I had turned everything off was 8299.50 and last night it was 8301.20 so 1.7- I don't know how you would would convert the 1.7 into kwh.
Can anyone point in the direction of an online calculator or the formula I may need? Thanks Tim.

To do it 100% accurately you would need the calorific value which changes continuously.
To get a reasonably accurate estimate however multiply the meter reading by 31.65 to get to the kWh.
Therefore you used about 53.8 kWh yesterday.1 -
Look at a previous gas bill and it have the formula used on it.
I just Googled Gas Bill conversion calculator and found 23.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds1 -
The formula should be given on your bills. On mine it says:
We convert your metered gas units to kWh using the following formula: Metered volume × metric conversion factor × daily calorific value × 1.02264 (volume correction) ÷ 3.6 = kilowatt hours (kWh) used.
You have an older meter (as do I) that measures in imperial units (100s of cubic feet), so the metric conversion factor is 2.83. The calorific value varies - the average value for me is about 39 - so the formula is approximately
Kilowatt hours (kWh) used = metered volume × 2.83 × 39 × 1.02264 ÷ 3.6
or
Kilowatt hours (kWh) used = metered volume × 31.4

Energy Prices, Energy Crisis - What might you be paying with the introduction of the new energy price cap? (godisgiving.org)
Gas spend yesterday was £5.20 (excluding standard charge). I'm £260 in credit at the moment and can rest a little now I know roughly what a big usage day is costing. When we get a spell of milder weather I'll do another comparison.1 -
If your meter is m3 and your paying the price cap for gas, then multiplying the units used by 1.0954 works as a dirty solution to convert direct to pounds and pence. I used 4 units yesterday which would be £4.38.
