As you only have 2 wires to the thermostat, you need to make sure it's a battery powered one.

If you're not bothered about wireless, they are all much of a muchness tbh, I bought a Danfoss TP One-B (B for battery) off eBay for less than a tenner brand new.

These are cheap on eBay! Plenty of mains versions, too, from around £15 for effectively 'as new'.
What are they like to use, Chris?
Works fine and is really fit and forget. Easy to override manually. Changes to summertime automatically.

Downsides are that as I don't alter it much I have to dig the manual out to remind me how to change the programmes.
  • Thanks Chris.
Sounds as though it'll do the job required.
Yes, that's the main issue when it comes to Programmable Thermostats; how easy - intuitive - they are to use. Some really poor designs out there. One big reason why Smart App control is so good.

If I was looking to replace mine, I would look for one ideally with half degree increments. One degree increments can sometimes be the difference between too warm and too cool, especially if trying to be economical and replacing a dial. I don't know which ones do or how common they are these days but some do it and some don't.
And if you can't find one of those, almost all can be switched from C to F then you have one degree F increments which are close to half a degree C.

Smart stats are more moneysaving because you are much more likely to control temperatures more accurately than just an old fashioned mechanical stat at the bottom of the stairs.
