BT Web Protect

I've had Bullguard/Norton installed on the PC for three years since we upgraded the PC as it was special offer. It's now due for renewal at £49.99 for the year. I've seen that with my BT I can get Web Protect for free on all my devices. Is this adequate and any good please? Thanks.

I have BT Web Protect on PCs and Android phones. It was free with BT Broadband.
I have Malwarebytes Pro running on PCs. It was free with my bank account.
If these products were not free to me I would not buy them and I would be happy with the protection given by Windows Defender and stock Android.
Go with whatever gives you piece of mind but remember that practicing safe internet is far more important than installing extra stuff.1 -
BT Web Protect is not a complete anti-malware solution - it is just a website-blocking solution at ISP level and doesn't install any software on your devices. It intercepts DNS requests and if the URL is on a known blocklist, it will redirect you to a warning page.
It won't work if you use your own DNS provider, it won't work on some devices (eg Android) that often insist on using Google DNS and only blocks websites on a known blocklist that can rapidly become outdated. It won't protect you from malware hosted on unblocked sites, emails, USB etc. To be honest it is relatively weak when it comes to protection and is akin to internet censorship. It can sometimes block safe sites for no reason.
BT Virus Protect on the other hand is a rebranded version of Norton anti-virus and is a complete antivirus solution. On mobile devices such as iOS and Android, it is pretty much a chocolate fireguard so I wouldn't bother.
I wouldn't pay for an AV but the above are ok if you get them for free.
As well as AV, always:- Keep all your devices up to date with the latest patches/software updates
- Use the latest and supported versions of software / OS
- Use complex and unique passwords for all website and MFA/2FA

Just to be clear, BT does Norton now.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.1
