Sorry to hear 5 times in 22 years is hard.

    1990 to 1994 - 4 years fixed term contract.
    99 -  just under 2 years.
04-  just over 4 years - Six months payoff

2 more years to go until FIRE

  • I certainly couldn’t beat you on number of redundancies…nor would I want to. Mine, however took place over a relatively short space of time.

    Redundancy one November 2007
    Age 47
Time employed 11 years 1 month

    Redundancy two March 2013
    Age 52
Time employed 3 years 2 months

    Redundancy three October 2016
    Age 55
Time employed 1 year 10 months

The most devastating effect was not only on salary, but also on pension. With each successive job, the pension terms offered were worse. It is what it is though and you do survive.

@livewire82 I hope things are looking up and you've managed to find something new now.

Looking at your post, It looks as though part of what's happened is that you've been hit by companies choosing to select people who have been there for a shorter period - the financial cost of paying redundancy if often a factor in the decision making process so  having been there only a couple of years can leave you very vulnerable compared with longer serving employees, and as the payments are higher for people once they are over 41 your age may also have been a factor .

I'm sure it's not a lot of confort but may help to recognise that it isn't due to anything you personally could have done differently.
