Santander 123 lite to Edge - new debit card?

Options
Hi all, I upgraded my Santander 123 lite account to Edge a few weeks ago. I was under the impression I should expect a new debit card, but I may have been mistaken. Can anyone confirm if it’s the case?

you'll only get a new one once your existing card is about to expire. I stand corrected, see below. It seems to depend on whether you have a Mastercard or a VISA card.

If you already have a Mastercard and are desperate for a new card, you can report your existing one lost. This would, however, leave you without a card for however long it takes to get a new one (postal strikes!) as the old card would immediately be blocked.

Thanks… no that’s fine not bothered about a new card just as long as I get the cash back when using the existing one, not tried it yet

If the cashback was dependent on a new debit card, they would say so in the Edge T&Cs.
  • I believe you do get a new card as mine arrived about 5 days after I opened the account.
the main reason is the new card is a Mastercard than a visa that the old account of mine was.

I also read it as the cash back was dependant on having a Mastercard not visa.

New card also feels more like cardboard than plastic

  • 5.2.2 Cashback on Debit Card spend
Cashback is paid on eligible Debit Card transactions, see section 5.3.2 to understand which transactions are eligible. A cap of £10 applies on the amount of cashback that is paid on eligible Debit Card spend so you will not earn more than this for this type of cashback in any single month.
We’ll only pay cashback on the net amount of the Direct Card payment. For example, if you’re refunded or part-refunded your Debit Card payment by a merchant, we’ll pay cashback on the net amount that you actually paid to the merchant.
We’ll pay the total amount of cashback you earn in each statement period to your account at the end of the statement period the cashback relates to. Cashback will be calculated on the eligible Debit Card payments you made during the relevant statement period.
Only payments made using a Mastercard debit card will be eligible for Cashback. If you have opened a new Santander Edge current account you will automatically be sent a Mastercard debit card. If you have transferred an existing account to the Santander Edge current account and hold a Visa debit card, we’ll send you a replacement Mastercard debit card in the post

Ah, thanks Stuart. That makes sense, I was fairly certain I’d seen something about a new debit card when I switched but the details had evaded me… my existing 123 card is fairly recent and a Mastercard so hopefully that will be fine.
