Big, heavy item not collected

Options
I auctioned an old item of office equipment, and the only bid was £1. So, it sold at that price, and the buyer paid. In fact, for anyone who can use it, it is a fantastic bargain at that price.

However, the buyer has not responded to any communications. I do want rid of the thing fairly soon, and obviously the £1 is neither here nor there.

Is there anything I can do? If the buyer does not want it, I will happily cancel the sale and realist it, but without communication I don’t know what to do?

Firstly, what sort of time scale and we talking about, days or weeks since payment?

Assuming it’s been a week or so then give buyer an ultimatum, either collect by xx date or you will assume they have changed their mind and will cancel the sale. If they don’t collect in that time scale, cancel sale using the option ‘buyer requested’, and you will get your FVFs back minus the 30p fixed fee.

It’s been less than a week, so I’m probably just getting het up about nothing.

The item weighs about 30-40 kgs, and it’s quite bulky. So, it would be hard to take to the dump, and having someone collect it is very helpful. Besides which, it cost me several £k and it’s a shame just to dump a working machine.

Out of interest, how much is the fee on a £1 auction? :)

Assuming standard rates (no FVF promotion when listing it) about £0.43?

    I've had this problem before.
Started something at £1 as I just want it out of the way but the winning bidder pays and never collects.

My theory is the bidder bids in it as they are local and it looks like a bargain that they can sell on for a decent profit.
When they are the only bidder they realise its actually pretty worthless and won't be esau to resell.
They pay the £1 or whatever to save getting a strike.

The few times it has happened to me I have just waited (a couple of months!!) then messaged the buyer to say "I've just found this item while packing up to move house - Collect within 24hrs or its going in the skip"
Never heard from any of them, not even to ask for a refund.

As said, you pay 30p or so even if you refund so I wouldn't be too quick to give the money back
