I'm not too keen on Christmas and all the paraphernalia which goes with it, I do this to avoid being called a grinch!
Thanks for the lovely song again, it's now running through my mind.As for the woodburner, if you can get a proper hot burn going then the airwash system burns off any black bits. I don't know if your stove has the airwash thing - air from below when first on, then close the bottom vents, and the secondary air from the side vent which is open wide at the start and then closed gradually as the fire goes.I have that fan on top, it's powered by convection from the heat of the stove only. Once it starts to turn I close off the primary air inlet at the bottom and then start to close off the secondary inlet. No roaring flames allowed!I've not lit it yet, am wrapped in my electric throw for now. My day has not yet started to have a purpose and, if I sit by the stove, I won't stir. Mind you, I may not stir anyway!10 -
Morning (just) folks. After yesterday's snow today we have a reprieve! I promised myself I would be organised before getting engrossed on here this morning. The last 2 presents to be delivered have now been wrapped and joined all the rest and the decs (such as they are!) are up! Nothing very elaborate - fibre optic tree in the hall and the twig tree in here has got its little ornaments on and is twinkling away nicely. The mantel has got its garland on and is also twinkling away, plus the village scene which Sparkle is currently leaving alone! Last year she tried to grab the little train as it came out of the tunnel! Other than a few Christmas ornaments that's my lot. And to think I used to like trimming up!
Now it's almost lunchtime and I feel like comfort food. I will have a freezer rummage and see what I come up with. I'm not very organised today food wise, unusual for a Sunday.
The highlights of the day will be the Masterchef final (my fingers are crossed for Nikita) and of course Strictly.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, fed up and MIA. DP1 I hope you have better news of your DGD today. Poor little mite, she has had more than her share of hospitals in her short life Take care all and keep safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"8 -
The glass is black at the bottom because I did use to clean it every time I relit it, but I haven't bothered for about a week, and I put a couple of peat bricks on it to keep it in with all the vents closed a few times this week so it builds up from that overnight, it gets mostly burned off during the day. I also have some new rope and glass seal to put on but it's too cold to leave it off for now so maybe next week when it's predicted to be a balmy 9 degrees:)It's a very pretty twig thoughNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

Izzy, I would agree curtains may be an answer, and to check the vents. Also, maybe consider a small oil-filled radiator with a thermostat that will kick in when it gets too chilly? I had one in an uninsulated concrete-floor extension and it made a big difference.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
