Hiya OP
If you want the easiet route for you, just contact you local friendly mot test centre like halford/kwiffit/etc and phone or go up to the desk and ask them just that. That way it will be clear in your mind what or what not to do.
Good luck.

If they can't because of a load on top, they can refuse to test it.They don't have to unfold them if they need tools to do it though....Removing the seat is the only option, they don't inspect a seatbelt where there is no corresponding seat.Fitting child seats wont help, as they inspect the part of the belt that they can get to, which would include the retractor.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If you're mucking about with seat belts, be careful not to trigger the pre tensioner. Could have your eye out.Signature on holiday for two weeks1

No need to do that. You can replace the seats as soon as the MOT is doneNobbie1967 said:
You would also need to inform your insurer as this would count as a modification. They may not be happy as they may suspect you are using it as a van.MikeJXE said:I have read elsewhere on a motoring forum there is no MOT legislation that demands more seats than the drivers as long as there are no seat belts either so. from that if you take the seats and the belts out it should pass.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1 -
It is a local friendly - not Halfords or Kwikfit - who look after my car. And they have been friendly and helpful. They did give the seatbelts a clean and try to retract them but they definitely need replacing, and I suppose after 17 years things do. I have sourced some second hand ones at far less cost than new model specific ones, which they will kindly fit for me. And then retest.Debt Free: 01/01/2020
