Can United utilities, legally apply to the DWP to have money deducted from my benefits without my consent.

    If they have tried others ways for you to repay what's owed and you haven't paid then yes they can apply to have the deductions from your benefits. https://www.gov.uk/bills-benefits

    They're very easy to talk to and helpful. You're better off making an arrangement with them and if you've any illness or claiming benefit due to income they can set you up on a scheme whereby you get a discount on your bill.
