Online banking

I have been using HSBC online banking for years. I live overseas so it enables me to handle my account easily.....until yesterday.
My normal procedure of typing in my user name then generating a six digit code has failed. I was declared unrecognized as soon as the username went in so didnt get a chance to generate a code. I was told to request a reset code via the app. I don't have the app and dont wish to do mobile banking.
I eventually got to speak to a person who asked a chain of banal questions. One being who I had made a payment of a specified amount to a week ago. Problem here is I didnt recognise the amount as I purchase in euros and am unaware of the exchange rate as it changes daily. As I was given one chance only I was informed that I could go to my branch or receive a letter by mail (ten working days)  I am not in UK so am unable to go to the branch and the letter will only be sent to the address they have for the account. I will not be there either so am unable to proceed. I explained this but just got the same info repeated.
I am therefore unable to access my account and will be unable to control my account ........all this a couple of weeks before christmas ???

Any ideas out there??

Could you download the app & register for mobile banking? That seems the easiest way to proceed.....

I would expect the paperwork to register will be sent to the home address.

OP, How long are you away from home for?

The OP says they already have and use online banking, so normally I don't think there should be any additional paperwork relating to dowloading and using the app. Although the fact that the online account now appears to be locked may cause an issue....

OP, How long are you away from home for?

From the sound of it OP is 'home' - it's just that home is now abroad and the bank is possibly (probably) unaware of the fact as the OP has retained some sort of UK accommodation address that the bank probably thinks they are currently living at....
Given that this appears to be a request for help and advice rather than just a vent, the thread might be better of moved to the Banking board - I'll put a request in to get it moved
