Hello,
Just budgeting for next year and deciding when to put my vehicle in for a new cam belt/water pump etc..
Just budgeting for next year and deciding when to put my vehicle in for a new cam belt/water pump etc..
It currently 5 years old and has covered a hair over 40k.
The warranty/maintenance book supplied with the vehicle suggests the interval is 112,000 miles / 10 years. Given that these Peugeot BlueHDI (/Ford DVI) are known for at least occasionally snapping cambelts before this mileage/age is reached, I'm wondering how long I should leave it.
Temptation is to budget for getting it done as part of the annual service next year, by which time the vehicle's mileage may have reached 43k (and 6 years of age). Seems a bit short on mileage, but I think as the vehicle is regularly unused for a week or two at time, which is plenty of time for moisture to settle, I think I'm better off being cautious.

Thanks.

..if you plan on keeping the car for a good while you may as well get it done and have another 5 years piece of mind..?? (IMHO)

For piece of mind I'd get it done rather than wait, there's already a thread on here for a Peugeot over heating and possible timing belt issues.1 -

For budget purposes, I'm keeping it. And practically, it makes sense to keep it, given the 100% reliability record. I'm contemplating getting the chassis treated to keep the tin worm at bay given. In the long run that will be the thing that most likely kills it. The only reason I can see for not getting that done (subject to how the other matter pans out) is vehicle excise duty changes and scarcity/expense of fuel once ICE vehicles are no longer sold in the UK.

Got a 5008, 1.6 bluehdi 2016 with 18k on the clock.
At 10 years old I might have 35k on the clock.
So not sure if I should get it done at 8 years or wait.0 -
