Car insurance repair

Sorry for the long post.My parked car was hit by a van.Damaging the front and back. Rang my insurance and gave them the details of the other driver. My insurance then arranged for it to go to my insurances recommended repairer. They also arranged a courtesy car.

It went to the repairer in September and 3 times they have failed to get the front bumper repair right. A inspection was done by the insurance companies engineer who told the garage to put a new bumper on it. Which they said they had.

The engineer looked at it again last week saying the new bumper looked fine and signed it off. However when I went to pick it up there was a new dent in the new bumper. The garage said it’s not a dent that’s it’s  normal-it can happen in the manufacture of the bumper. It’s clearly a dent I can feel it. That the engineer signed it off and I have to take the car. They were very aggressive about it. I refused and rang the insurance who said to send them photos and they will speak with the engineer.
The engineer agreed that it was not there when he looked at it and told the garage to fix it. I told them I don’t want them to touch it again I want it sent to a Skoda garage. As it’s a Skoda and I don’t trust any of the work their garage have done. They agreed and said they would sort it out. It’s still with the garage at the moment.

My insurance company rang me yesterday and they said they don’t send it to Skoda that, that is not how things are done. I would have to take the car there. I explained that the person I spoke to the day before said they would send it. They are getting back to me. Also they said that the engineer agreed the dent happened in the manufacture of the bumper but that’s not what he said the other day.

My question is do I have to accept the car then take it to Skoda. As I don’t trust the insurances garage to say any repair problems I find were done after I picked it up. Would Skoda be able to check the work the insurances garage have done?

Ive never had to make a claim before I don’t know my rights.

Does your Skoda garage even have a bodyshop? Many dealerships only deal with mechanical issues and outsource bodywork to a local coachworks.

The problem with dealing with a garage of your choice is your insurer doesn't have contract with them, they cannot insist that they come out and collect your car etc unlike their own preferred garages where its a condition of being on the list.

What's the issue with you taking your perfectly drivable vehicle to the garage of your choice?
