Adding Second storey on side extension advice

Hi there,
we are on a corner plot and I am hoping to add a bedroom directly on top of our side extension which houses the kitchen (external 4.3m x 3.8m).
I know I will need pp for this and aim go get some builders around soon to have a look.
Seems like it would be pretty straightforward but just trying to get my head around how the rooflines would work. Could I just raise and use the gable roof of the extension and incorporate this into the hip roof of the main house? Or would I need a new roof entirely?
Attached are a few photos.
Any advice on this would be appreciated
Thanks
J

Or would I need a new roof entirely? If the main roof is hipped then you would need to do a hip to gable conversion, or relocate the hip - which means some fairly substantial work to the main roof is needed.Raising a single storey gable to full height means having adequate foundations, but it can also look unattractive trying to build new brickwork off the top of a pitched gable wall... you may get a better result by demolishing the gable to the existing wallplate level and building from there. In terms of cost/space, ending up with a replacement hip roof probably won't be the most economic solution - although you'll be lucky if the foundations of a single storey wall are adequate to form a full-height gable. You'll probably need to speak to an architect rather than a builder to figure out the most economic and practical approach. Conversion of the loft space (if it isn't already) should also be a consideration.1

With a full gable wall (side wall of the loft), the roof is more easy to build/change, but where I live, for a semi-detached house the council didn't want a full gable wall and insisted on a 'clipped gable' (half hipped) roof at least.jamieboot said:
