Countrywide Trust

Firstly, I have no experience of how Trusts work, the terminology used etc. nor can I find any help using search engines. Here is my problem.:-
my partners mother put her house in trust in 2017 with Countrywide Trust co. Now mum has just recently gone into long term nursing care home. The LA needs to do a second financial assessment - the first one was to assess care needs at home. The sister that dealt with the first assessment hasn't answered the request for a meeting to re-assess mum's finances. The social worker dealing with mum's case suggested my partner gets involved.
The original Trust documents cannot be found at her home and it must be assumed they've been destroyed. Countrywide were contacted to release copies of the paperwork. They very quickly replied with their charges for communicating with the LA - £350!
All 3 siblings have LPA for Property and Finance.
Is this the norm for a trust company to charge for corresponding with LA?

You are now going to have a battle with the LA over deliberate deprivation of assets. The firm that sold her this at great expense are bottom feeders who make lots of money selling useless trusts through fear of care costs.

In reality she would be far better off being able to self fund and avoid Over my dead body Grange,  In your shoes I would be looking to wind the trust up and use the assets to get her the best care possible.

If the trust documents cannot be found - is the existence of the trust recorded in some what on the title deeds with the Land Registry?

However, given that Countrywide advertise their services like this...
Are you concerned about what you intend leaving to your children and grandchildren being eaten up by care costs, divorce settlements, threats from creditors, or taxes? Countrywide has the answers!

...the Local Authority may very well form the view that "deprivation of assets" is a factor here.

Just hope the bottom feeders have not ended up as the trustees.
  • Thanks everyone for your input - here is the part of the land registry that makes reference to Countryside.

I believe the proprietor is my partners mum. And yes, it looks like mum was mis-informed or taken advantage of just after her husband passed away.

It also looks like Countryside are the trustees  so this could get very expensive to sort out. Sorry to say this but I think you need to take legal advice on how to proceed.
