If it is the IHD (OP has still not made it clear what the issue is) then it may simple need moving nearer to the smart meter to re-establish connection.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I was pestered over 2 years to get a smart meter - I relented and got both Gas & Electric SM's this year (8 months ago maybe). The electric works, the gas SM does not. I had a guy come to look at it, and he said the ESM has the transmitter and works fine, the GSM is supposed to communicate with the ESM (I assume bluetooth as not hard wired,) to send a reading, but does not. Over the last 5 months EDF has asked me many times to send readings, but I've said "you wanted it, so you fix it". Rather than fix it they have now contracted with "Morrison Services" to call and read the meter. My guess is that the energy suppliers had some target/incentive to get them installed, but they have no incentive to maintain them. My boiler was serviced a few weeks ago, and the engineer said many people have the same problem. It seems that in particular GSM's are being fitted that do not work from the outset (at least much more common than ESM's). Surely there is some watchdog that keeps statistics on how many installed SM's there are, and how many of them are having to be read manually? Reporting this by the providers should be mandatory, and if more than 10% are faulty at any one time a penalty should be applied. My display tells me by day3 each week, that I have gone over budget on electricity, but has no data on gas usage. I wonder if this is only true for EDF or are they all falling short on customer service?

    A picture saves many words:

There is no Bluetooth. The gas smart meter communicates with the gas proxy meter which is located in the communications hub via the Home Area Network (HAN). The In House Display also connects to the communications hub via the HAN.

There are two possible reasons why your gas meter is not connected: one, it hasn’t been commissioned properly or, two, the distance between the gas meter and the communications hub is too great or subject to metallic interference.

The Government does produce quarterly statistics with the total number of smart meter installations with details if the number that are working in smart mode. Yes, Ofgem does set supplier rollout targets and suppliers are fined if the target is not achieved.

Just do a monthly reading of the gas meter yourself and stop playing silly beggars. You aren't big and you aren't clever.

As for the IHD showing you are "over budget", have you actually set yourself a budget or simply left it at factory settings? Try reading the instructions or look at an online guide. It's probably more useful to have it show readings in kWh than £ anyway,

  • Our in house display has been locking itself up every few days since we had it in March 2022, we complained regularly throughout the year. It's got worse since December and our complaints were every few days. EoN just said it's our fault, it just needs turning off /on and, eventually, we must pay for a new one as it's an old model and we have had it a year. not quite a year and it has not worked properly for most of that time.

Well allowing that you don’t actually need the IHD, you don’t “have” to pay for anything! Try the “Bright” app if you want something that shows you the data day by day - plenty of folk on here say it’s excellent.
