So, an even better result for the OP's friend. No back-billing at all, not even one year.
Buy I'm still puzzled as to why BG were not able or willing to contact XOServe themselves and register for the supply when the friend contacted them-the OP confirmed that the s/n was supplied?
Why should this task be left to the end user, who is rarely going to be equipped or have the knowledge as to what is required?
I took a look at the XoServe home page and it's fairly intimidating for non-professionals, there isn't even a contact number that is visible.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Its odd that British Gas Business do have a shipperless team but nothing for domestic .
I have read the same Xoserve home page I think as you where they went through 15 points which can end up getting a shipperless supply. It only takes one of these mistakes to mess things up..
I was thinking maybe the OP can start the whole process again from scratch  and start the process  and register again with Xoserve as a new gas supply fitted
  • well - its still not resolved.
Xoserve - say that they can find the meter using the serial number, however the address its registered too doesn't exist!
They suggested trying to register with a provider using the wrong address then after the first bill calling to correct the address. I've tried two providers and when talking to them on the phone they wont do this. So tomorrow im going to be back on the phone to Xoserve again
  • If anyone wants an update. It's still ongoing. It finally turned out the meter although completely wrongly registered was installed by one of the power companies and was linked to them. They have finally updated there database but informed us we will be backkbilled for multiple years of usage. We now have to wait "up to 6 weeks" to see how much that bill will be. I'm not looking forward to that arriving. I was hoping people were right above when they said as it's. Supplierless there won't be a charge but it's looking increasingly likely that we won't be so lucky.

Who was the company that installed but wrongly registered the meter?

I thought the meter was at the property of a family member, not yours?

How much gas have they used over those several years?
