NewDay John Lewis - unable to use balance transfer to clear balance

All holders of the new John Lewis card beware. I got an offer from First Direct to transfer a balance and took it up to pay off my balance on my new JL card. I've just been on holiday and my new card had taken a hit! First Direct approved and initiated the transfer and the negative balance has been showing on my First Direct card for the last week (and is still showing). However, as NewDay apparently have not registered their details with the Central Billing List, First Direct cannot send the money to my card. Soooo ... I missed my payment date on the NewDay John Lewis card and now will owe interest. It seems like sharp practice by NewDay as it is in their interest for me to pay them interest rather than clear my balance. I'm sure it is all legal but John Lewis does seem to have partnered with a shoddy organisation - at least one that does not adhere to the same customer service ideals that JLP has always espoused.

Comments

  • It doesn't look like sharp practice.

It looks as if you either made a mistake with your card details or an admin error at NewDay. Confirm the details you supplied to FD and work through from there.
  • Nope. All good at the First Direct end. It is First Direct that told me NewDay was not set up on the Central Billing List!
  • Then it just needs to be tracked through to your NewDay account. It's just a payment - nothing to do with any 'central billing list'
  • BTW if I could get through to someone at NewDay I would take it up with them but they were hopeless unlike the lovely people at FirstDirect.

    Looks about right for Newday.

I closed my new JL account, they have sent a secure message to an account I have never been able to open or access and any phone call proves futile.
