Leaking toilet flush valve

The flush valve on our toilet has always leaked a bit and it is getting worse. It is a push button flush, but the valve is a flap which is just pulled up. The flap has an angle adjuster mechanism, but this just changes the leak from slight to significant!
So I guess that the valve is leaking. Is there a make of valve that should look out for (I don't want to change it twice!)? I thought of just getting one from Screwfix.
Thanks!

theres about 3 common types of cistern valve. take yours out first (if not sure) and then goto wickes etc.
or any plumbers merchants.Get some gorm.0 -
OK, thanks. I am confident in the type of valve I need, just not that the new one won't suffer the same problem. I guess it is a cheap one (came in a kit from homebase) so a new one should be better.0

These valves are bound to leak eventually, with age/wear and tear.
A syphon based system is valve-less, so never leaks like this."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
..although we had had to descale (we used Kettle descaler) the cistern upstairs once in a while - crud builds up and then the toilet continues running because it never quite fillsYorkie
