If they overestimated the consumption when rates were lower, I'd probably stick with that and start sending readings from now on.

My smart meter, a year old, doesn't sent readings anymore. Ovo are coming to change the mobile network sender.

Interesting. The DCC has kept this quiet. It would seem that Virgin media is now in on the act.

Edit: My bad. It would seem that the DCC is just using the latest Virgin Media/O2 logo. It follows that I am not sure what the OP means by change of network sender?

  • I'm not the OP. Maybe it's not it's correct name but the bit on top of the meter than contains the sim card and communicates the meter readings, case tamper etc.

The ‘bit on the top of the meter’ is a communications hub that connects to the DCC network via a Wide Area Network and the IHD by a Home Area Network. It contains a 2G SIM card that connects to the O2 network. (Northern regions use long range UHF). The DCC - not the supplier - is responsible for all communications hubs as they contain GCHQ-level security.

  • Network sender = communications hub = not communicating (poor mobile signal here) = Ovo sorting it out (either their own engineer or delegated to GCHQ, I don't know).
