Myson CP53 CH water pump on the way out, what to do?!

No special tools needed, although I have an adjustable spanner that will open up to do a pump nut. Grips and stillsons tend to grip and squash as you undo a nut so making it harder to undo. http://www.justtools.com.au/category592_1.htm
Both valves work the same way.
Drain down is always a possibility.

Well I'm absolutely gutted!! I finally (albeit nervously
) got down to replacing the pump. All went well. Installed new pump, hooked it up to the electric and was raring to go, when what do ya know?!.......The inlet gate valve jammed closed?!!!..............Nothing I can do about it!!!! Grrrrrr!!!!! Now face having to drain down the whole system! Bl00dy 'ell! :mad:
Can anyone advise on whether I should tackle changing the jammed gate valve myself or get a qualified plumber in to do it for me?
I've never drained down the central heating system myself and so am unsure whether I would be asking for trouble if I attempt to do it myself.
Does anyone have any idea of how much a plumber would charge to do such a job? I assume it would take quite a while to complete and therefore be more expensive than I can afford?! Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A0 -
