If the transfer is less than £10,000, is there any point at all using CHAPS rather than Faster Payment please? I know this isn't applicable to OP, but just wondering. Thanks
If you meet the day's cut-off time Chaps is supposed to be guaranteed to arrive the same day whilst a faster payment is only guaranteed to arrive next day, although, as we know, 98% of the time it will arrive the same day.

So in theory Chaps gives more certainty on timing but judging by a few recent (outlier?) threads sometimes Chaps payments can take days to arrive.
Thanks @wmb194. For building society accounts and the like, in which payments usually show NWD despite being received same working day, theoretically if it was CHAPS would it show the same working day, or does this only mean it was guaranteed to reach the building society holding account the same working day, and then be allocated in their normal timescales? Thanks
You'd need to check with each institution but this is probably a fair assumption.

In fact it's irrelevant as there are no Building Societies that are members of CHAPS, which makes sense when you consider this it is primarily a system for business payments.
List of members can be found here.
Nationwide is missing from that BoE list

Doesn’t matter to the consumer how the money moves behind the scenes. The important point is that I can instruct Nationwide to make a CHAPS payment for me.

I believe Coventry, YBS and Leeds BS can also accept CHAPS payment instructions.

If you are asking whether there are banks which allow up to £100k online payments a day from personal current accounts without charge, the answer is yes. Starling and Santander do, and there might be others.  Do expect extra security checks.

As has already been mentioned, you can also make payment of £100k in some bank branches, plus some allow it on the phone. https://www.wearepay.uk/what-we-do/payment-systems/faster-payment-system/transaction-limits/.

You can also pay for CHAPS payments at all banks. CHAPS limit is your balance.
As above many banks will allow to transfer more then £20k per day online and for free (as other have said, in person CHAPS payment are limited by your balance/overdraft, but do have a fee associated to it for most banks, Barclays being a notable exception).

A couple of example of free FP daily limits:

Santander do allow up to £100k per day but each single payment has un upper limit of £25k, which means the OP could  do the total £100k transfer in 4 consecutive FP.

Barclays has variable limits per single payments but will allow up to £50k per day for Personal and £100k per day for Premier customer, and with them have recently changed the Premier requirement, the OP could potentially qualify for Premier.

The banks they use as intermediaries are most likely members though...

Good point, and I was slightly surprised not to see Nationwide in the list, which has been explained in later posts. I don't suppose there is a definitive list of which Building Societies do offer CHAPS payments so it would be a case of checking each one, although putting a society's sortcode(s) into a checker will tell you if its enabled for CHAPS and if it has a CHAPS BIC (e.g. Nationwide 07-01-16 has BIC MIDLGB22, which handily also indicates that it uses HSBC (ex-Midland Bank)).
