Facial Recognition. Atom vs RBS/NatWest

I have facial recognition set up on RBS and NatWest aps and it is mandatory on Atom.
Is it just me, or is Atom really way better than the NW/RBS ones?
The technology must be similar but whilst Atom always works instantly in any light, NW/RBS keeps failing to recognise me.

Or conversely, the Atom one is far less secure and will allow access to anything vaguely face-like?
I've got both and I know what you mean, the RBS one insists that you blink, Atom don't care if your eyelids move or not. Atom is certainly more tolerant of low-lighting but is that not down to how good your camera is?1 -

Then again, I can try NW/RBS with a blinking video of me.0 -
I've tried facial recognition with Natwest and it just drove me up the wall. I found I had to get the lighting perfect or else it doesn't work. It didn't like artificial lighting, hates sunrise or sunset and refused to work point blank if it was raining outside. I found atom works ok but I tend to use the passcode option instead.2

"it is mandatory on Atom."Yes, it is a requirement when applying but not the only way to log in. Registering my mug was a nightmare, it took ages. Insufficient light, phone not vertical, too close, too far away etc..I use a p.i.n. to log in because both the face recognition and voice recognition don't and never have worked. Apparently my face is "a spoof"!Can't comment on RBS and NatWest, don't have accounts.

It is annoying though that it is not optional on NW/RBS for changing an account nickname. Why can I not do that with a card reader or fingerprint?
And if it is a requirement as least get some decent software like Atom.0
