I know it's just a question but could happen with some people but it arises because they disregard a car and house but how expensive can they be if purchased before coming onto a benefit.

    The time-frame would matter
    If someone bought a £100,000 car and the next day put in a claim for a means-tested benefit then this could and probably would be considered that you still had the £100,00 as notional capital.
