Is there a cut off date to qualify?
I qualified for my state pension in Oct so wont get the £300 this year.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I remember a friend telling me when it came out her mother paid two weeks rent with it.

Just to compare, in the Republic of Ireland the pensioners get a full extra week's pension and those on benefits entitled to it get a full extra week's benefit.

Looks like qualifying week is in December. Don't spend it all at once!

If it had just kept up with inflation from 1972 the payment would have to be £155 today
It depends which figures you are using.

On the basis that the basic state pension in 1972 was £6.75 per week, and using the cost of living increase factor from the public sector PI tables (RPI to 2010 then CPI) I make that:

    £6.75 X 13.8331 = £93.37

The calculator that I was using was to simply work out what £10 then is worth in today's money. Both of us received it today in the bank accounts. Going to have a wild time spending it - two packs of flags costs £20.80.

What flags will you be flying.

Both my iron and folate levels are low :#.  When I suggested to my GP that this could be an excuse for eating some nice steak he agreed  o:)

So I bought 2 pieces of sirloin with my £10 and put them in the freezer  for Christmas

    Rant mode on !
Don't bother trying to contact the pension service or job centre plus for anything important this week as they are going to be choked with calls.
Morning Live on BBC1 have just announced that the XB WILL have been paid in the first week of Dec and to contact the pension service / job centre plus if you haven't received it.  Last year I received mine, same as this year, on the first Monday of the run, MrsM received hers on 20th. It will be paid before Christmas so no point panicking.  I do wish these tv programmes would not come out with this sort of misinformation, it causes no end of problems for those that really do need to contact these services.
