Electric Meter to "lose functionality in March 2023"

I keep getting emails from Shell Energy saying our RTS meter will lose functionality in March 2023.  This is due to an industry wide change that will affect the radio signal our meter uses to communicate.  We are on Economy 7 and they say it will no longer support mutli rate tariff.and will be unable to switch to our tariff's off peak rate and in some cases could cause interruption to our central heating!
Is this true or is it just a ploy to get us to have a Smart Meter which I do not want!

It's true, and you'll need to get a smart meter to resolve it I'm afraid (unless your supplier has any old style meters around, but that's very unlikely)

What is your objection to a smart meter? All replacement meters are smart meters.
