Which Vanguard index fund looks a good bet?

Here's a fun game - if people came to the MSE forum 10 years ago and were looking for ideas around what IA sectors they should invest in, what % do you think would suggest the US?

So the consensus view is never right?- Just following the crowd has never been a good idea.
Seems a strange proposition.I am one of the Dogs of the Index.1 -

Seems a strange proposition.I said just following the crowd e.g without thinking your own needs. Those crowd might not be having the same goal with yours. It will also depend on which crowd consensus you are following. If it is about the consensus of acute strategists, analysts, proven billionaires investor it might be different with just following random people on the internet people who do not have a track record making money in the stock market.Just looking back to the consensus Vanguard life-strategy 60/40 which were very popular a few years ago. Investing in Bonds while the aim is to generate wealth, see what they are saying now ??Similarly the consensus of throwing all of your lump-sum £100k, £300k money early this year rather than DCA in the bear market . Now ask those who followed this consensus, how they are feeling now.0 -
This is a real shame, and I hope you reconsider. If you click on a user's profile, there is an option to add them to your ignore list, so you'll only see their replies when others quote them. It's a very useful feature in circumstances like this.Nova1307 said:OP here. Thanks to those who took the time to write respectful responses.

‘ Diversification is protection against ignorance. It makes little sense ifyou know what you are doing.’ That’s me, so diversification suits me well.
‘ DIVERSIFICATION IS A USELESS INVESTMENTSTRATEGY!’ Lynch is surely wrong there, since properly executed diversification ensures market returns less costs. History shows they’ve been ok.
‘The idea of excessive diversification…’. No idea how you get excessive diversification, but if it means ‘ordinary’ market returns, I’ll take that as a guaranteed, no thinking approach.0
