If you were entitled to a payment of UC for your AP that was between 27th July and 26th August then you will be entitled to the payment because that AP ended within the qualifying criteria.

They can't choose the date. They must use the period that matches the requirements. They must use the assessment period that ended on or between the qualifying dates. If your AP starts on the 27th August and ends on the 26th September then that one is outside the qualifying period because it ends after 25th September.  The period that does end within the qualifying dates is the one from 27th July and ends on the 26th August. They are correct.

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

If your UC was reduced to zero because of earnings in the assessment period 27th July to 26th August then you don't qualify for the £324. The assessment between 27th Aug to 26th Sept is outside of the qualifying date.
Those that are paid every 4 weeks there will be 1 month a year when you're paid twice from your employer. UC is based on earnings received during your assessment period. So you did receive more earnings that month, which is correct.
