OVO changing me to variable
Hi, on 08 Oct I started a new 2 year fixed contract with OVO.
My rates were.
Electric 34.09p per kWh Standing charge 31.57p per day
Gas 10.00p per kWh Standing charge 27.12p per day.
I have today been advised by them that “Your fixed-rate plan has ended. To follow energy industry rules, on 08 October 2022 we moved you to Simpler Energy, our variable plan, where prices can go up and down based on the price of wholesale energy, but protected by the price cap.”
The new prices are
Electric 35.79p per kWh Standing charge 33.15p per day
Gas 10.50p per kWh Standing charge 28.48p per day.
Is OVO abiding by the rules and will I better off changing as they say, or should I insist on staying on a 2 year fixed price contract
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the forum.
So what you actually mean is "On 8 October I thought I was going to move onto a 2-year fix, but actually I got moved onto the standard variable tariff".
Can you insist on staying on a contract that never actually started?0 -
Welcome to the forum.
Have you signed up to a new fixed tariff when your old one ended? If not, how do you want to insist to stay on fixed tariff.
When a fixed tariff ends you are automatically changed to the variable tariff if you do nothing, and that seems to be what is happening here.0 -
Fixed Tariff is a FIXED price and a FIXED period - has the period ended on 08/10/22?0

What was the name of the fixed rate you were moving onto in October, and on what date did they confirm to you that you would be moving to it?
Those figures seem low for a fixed rate that started after the Oct price cap, and I didn't think any fixed tariff's after 1st October were eligible for the discounted rate, though hopefully someone who knows more can help me out here?0 -
Both points correct.Jyana said:Those figures seem low for a fixed rate that started after the Oct price cap, and I didn't think any fixed tariff's after 1st October were eligible for the discounted rate, though hopefully someone who knows more can help me out here?
There hasn't been a fix with that sort of rate offered for many months (I'd say probably about six or eight months now), and a fix starting after 1 Oct wouldn't be eligible for the EPG (which is perhaps partly why there are almost none on offer).1
